Hurricane Ian Continues to Threaten Florida, Georgia and South Carolina
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Hurricane Ian has reemerged in the Atlantic Ocean and is expected to take a northward turn before reaching the Mid-Atlantic Coast.
Locally, high swells are expected to continue resulting in minor coastal flooding with water possibly reaching the dunes. These conditions should continue through Saturday. Wave heights are expected to remain between five to nine feet today and tonight and subside to three to five feet by tomorrow afternoon. Swimmers should use extreme caution due to dangerous rip currents.
A Small Craft Advisory is in effect until 1:00 a.m. Friday. A Coastal Flood Advisory continues in effect until 10:00 a.m. Friday.
Residents wanting to visit the beach should park along access roads and walk to the beach. The City will notify the Texas General Land Office of any access road closures due to water inundation.
City lifeguards will be located on beach access roads and use mobile units to respond to emergencies. The City has placed message boards at beach access roads advising the public of water and beach conditions.
Visitors should observe and follow the flag warning system to stay updated about surf and rip current conditions.
